tilt and trim motor 95 88spl

i have determined my tilt and trim motor is shot from all the dings and dots and dashes the previous owner has inflicted on it lol. my prob is tilt motor sierra # 18-6759 has 3 mounting holes and it seems impossible to get a screw driver in the back bolt without splitting motor . i'm hoping without pulling motor i can disconnect stirring and remove transom mount bolts and the two bolts port side of motor to get at trim motor ,correct me if i'm wrong plz thanks . no pics boat is a mess

well to test the motor, unplug the harness to the tilt control box, then add direct power to the wires to the tilt motor. if you get nothing, it is much easier, to lift and slide the motor back away from the transom.
