tilt and trim on yamaha 40hp

It doesn't want to operate at the same speed. From the lowest position to about 20 degrees it moves slowly, then like somethings releases and it moves faster all the rest of the way up. On the opposite way down, it slows at the exact same point. We cannot figure it out. The fella I just bought it from claims it has always done this since he bought it new.

My '99 C40 does the same thing..never gave it any thought really. When/if it STOPS working, that'll be another story!

That is the "trim" part of the tilt and trim.

my 60 does the same thing has for 12 years since i bought it new has not given me any trouble - normal.
