 I winterized my boat this year and when I went to raise my motor, alls I got was a clicking sound at the motor. I have narrowed it down to the elec. motor for the T&T. I took the whole system off and hooked it up to a battery and it didn't work until I "TAPPED" on the side of the elec. motor. SO do I put it back on the boat or have the elec. motor overhauled??
I own an Evinrude 140HP mod. #E140TLCO engine. I believe it's a '79 year motor, the boat is. spydrman@sbcglobal.net

spydrman,

Do you get the same "clicking" when you try to make it go down?

You should be able to pull the motor itself off and see if it rotates.

Re: Tilt and Trim Problems

djohns19, I pulled the motor off and it did rotate after I hooked the battery to it. I had to tap on the side of the housing. I don't know if the brushes are bad or if something has gotten inside to mess it up. I don't want to put it back on if it is not reliable.

spydrman

Just so you know what you're working with, that's a 1985 Model Evinrude. You can get a new T&T Motor at the link below, but they are about $225.00. Might be able to have yours rebuilt for under $100.00.
