ok boat gurus this is the scoop.
details: Johnson 1977 75hp with Tilt & Trim ( I think OMC cobra stern drive) part hyb 5001.
my tilt and trim motor was working, to my ear, pretty damn sweetly. yet after leaving my boat on my drive for a few days i came out to do a few checks before taking her down to the ramp.
upon checking the tilt and trim motor nothing happened, just vibrations from the t&t motor. suspecting it could be the battery, i went a tested all other electronics and even started up the outboard, which started up successfully.
i then decided to take the motor apart and check what is going on. everything seemed ok, i de-soldered the connections to the commutator and then tested the wire with my circuit tester, both proved to be getting current as the bulb was illuminating. i dont have access to a multimeter at the moment.
upon resoldering everything back. i tested the motor without putting it back into the hydraulic pump, it seemed to work and then just lost power after a few fast rotations. i connected a battery boost pack to to supply a garenteed 12 volts. the motor went great spinning up at full speed. but when putting back into the pump it went **** again.
ive tried to be concise as possible - i have no real idea what im talking about here. please help
