tilt and trim

At the risk of sounding stupid what is the difference between tilt and trim on an OB motor?<br /><br /><br />Thanks,<br />Mike

Tilt raises or lowers the motor like for trailering. Trim, adjusts the tilt for max performance. Hope that makes sense.

So the tilt is all or none and the trim is the adjustment within that full range ?<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Mike

So the tilt is all or none and the trim is the adjustment within that full range ?<br /><br /><br />Yes, for example, my old mercury has a "trim limit switch" that opens the circuit once the limit is reached when on plane and trimming the motor up for best performance. The "tilt" function or circuit would be for tilting the motor up and down for trailering/shallow water operation. Couldn't live without it now.
