I have a 20ft cuddy proline with a 200 johnson, my question is: I have hydraulic tilt and trim, when in the water going half to full throttle, should you be able to see engine come up and adjust as you push tilt, my boat planes very easily. but i've seen other boats as tilt is adjusted there is noticeable change in engine position. doesn't seem to be coming up when moving in water, any comments appreciated. thanks in advance

Re: tilt and trim

One big key to wether or not it is working is the handling of your boat, small adjustments may be hard to see but should be felt in how the boat reacts. If I'm wromg I'm sure I'll be corrected, then we'll both learn something. :D :D But that's my nickles worth.!!

Taz

Re: tilt and trim

Hi from Ireland !

A small adjustment of just 5 to 10 degrees would be 2 to 3 seconds on the trim button !

When cruising these would be common enough adjustment ranges

soce....do you have a trim gauge? You should be able to see even small movements on it. When using the trim, do you see any increase in engine rpms? As you come up on plane from say around 3/4 throttle using the trim, you should see an increase in rmps. Also an increase in speed would be noticed.

Re: tilt and trim

i had that same question at one time:
fastrack 0 to 21 degrees trim range, 22 to 75 is tilt range.
conventional 0 to 15 degrees trim range, 16 to 65 tilt range.
with the conventional the book says " the outboard can be operated while tilted past the intial 15degrees for shallow water driving. above approx 1500rpm, the trim relief valve opens automatically lowering the motor to the fully trimmed out position. attempts to tilt the motor when operating over 1500rpm will have no effect".
i know mine is the convetional and it will only trim up so far under way and functions just as its supposed to. it scared me once when i had it tilted to far and dropped as i throttled up, thought i broke or hit something til i read the book. might want to check connections, but yet if it tilts out of water and holds when motor isnt running it should be fine. i could be wrong.-----

it doesnt say to much about the fasttrack other than " if the motor exceeds idle rpm while operating in shallow water mode (tilted beyond trim range) the motor will tilt down to the top of the trim range". hope that helps.
