tilt angle

I'm calling this the tilt rod, but please correct me if I'm using the wrong term. It's the rod that sets the minimum tilt on my motor manually by unscrewing it and putting it in a different hole.

Mine is currently on the very bottom hole. The guy I bought my boat from used to try and wakeboard behind it. The most I will do is tow one skinny kid at a time in an Airhead tube.

If I move the tilt rod one hole up what will happen? Will I get better top end speed but worse hole shot? What if I was to get a hydrofoil?

I don't really have any planing problems right now, but would like to try and get some more speed. My speedo usually shows my top speed around around 28-30 mph.

Thoughts?

Re: tilt angle

Normal setting is the second hole from the transom.

Normally a 50HP motor has top speed of 28-30. Moving it up one notch will raise the bow, and can give more speed, at the loss of holeshot. Definately try the second and third holes. Watch for ventilation of the prop, especially in turns.

OK, so my speed is around where it should be.

If I move to the middle hole and put a hydrofoil on it, what do you think that would do? Would it be worth it? Again, I really don't have any issues right now, but better performance from spending $50 could be worth it.

the easiest way to get speed is to get your engine up out of the water, I see you are on the top mounting hole, try raising the engine up as far as you can wihtout blowing out the prop all the time.

This is a trial and error kind of deal, I would start at the top hole and move down 1-2 if it blows out(prop sucks air), all hulls are different so it is hard to say where it should be, general rule is that the cavitation plate should be 1'' below to level with the bottom of the boat.

I just dropped mine a hole(bored and nothing to fix) and lost 2 mph so it can make a huge difference.

With that pin try it in all the positions and use the best one
