tilt clutch

72 oMC 225 sterndrive till clutch took it all apart grease it all up and put it back together still have the drive propped up should I be able to turn the worm gear by hand with no load on it

If the gear is engaged with the quadrant you won't be able to turn the worm shaft by hand. If the quadrant is removed you should be able to rotate it from inside with a screwdriver.

Thanks i was trying to turn it with the gear that the quadrant tests on, with the quadrant off.
I will try to turn it with the screw driver later.

you might have that shaft broke that the worm gear rides on,they sit for years rust,and get stuck,people force them and brake the shaft.
