Well, I closed out the getting it working thread - many thanks to all - but I do have another question about how the tilt mechanism is supposed to work.

There appears to be no mechanism to lock the tilt except tightening the hinge so it will hold the tilt but not too tight as it needs to tilt if it hits something underwater - am I correct?

The second question is there is a sprung catch that doesn't seem to do anything. Is that just to catch the motor so it doesn't tilt all the way in case of hitting something? The part I'm talking about is number 35.

Thanks once again,
Mark

I believe the part is called the 'reverse lock'. I'm a bit puzzled as to how it works

]You want the motor to tilt up easy. Forward thrust will keep it down. NOW, on the reverse lock. Theres a "cam" on the lower shaft just below the powerhead, inside the transom clamps in the back. Right about where the #40 is located. Actually its an extended piece that will hold the reverse lock off the pin when facing forward. When you spin the motor, the extended piece will move out of the way with the motor, and now the reveres lock is able to spring down, and grab the pin. Simple to see if its free. Tilt the motor when facing you. Then spin it to the side...you should not be able to raise it. Look in there, and you will see what I mean
