Tilt not working on 70hp Johnson

After dewinterizing my late 80's 70hp Johnson, I can not get the motor to tilt up. It was stored in the down position for the winter. At first the motor would not run, but after a few wacks with a bar, I guess the brushes left loose and it started running. Now that it runs, it will not move the ram out to raise the motor. Really hard to get at things with the motor down. Tried to raise manually but seems to be almost impossible to move. Could there be air in the system and how do you get it out.

When you tried to lift the engine, did you release the manual release valve 2 turns? Located in a hole at the bottom portion of the starboard transom bracket...... don't back it out over 2 turns.

Sounds more like the unit needs fluid.

I tried that screw to no avail. I tried it all all different postions. How do you get oil into the system with motor fully down. Motor bracket covers the whole trim assembly.

There's no way to put fluid into that unit when it's down.

Are you saying that turning that release valve out doesn't release the unit, or are you saying that you can't turn that release valve screw? Important to be precise.

If you're saying it can't be turned, use a hand held impact screwdriver to loosen it.
