how is origianl setup supposed to be on a 1976 merc 650, becuase everytime I want to lift up the engine I have to get into the water, pull out the pin that it locks onto and then lift the engine up, its been fine so far, as I have just been going to the local lake which is warm and close, but Iam going to want to do some fishing on the ocean soon, in which case I do not want to have to jump in waste height just to lift up my motor...any help is great

no body knows where the release is supposed to be on a 1976 merc 650 besides having to pull the pin out?

Jay, The motor should be locked down in neutral and reverse. Try putting it into forward. If it doesn't tilt, the reverse lock is mis adjusted

your a genius, thats exaclty what I was looking for, and it works fine although the motor is a little hard to lift from in the boat, its still much better then having to jump in waste deep to pull the pin and lift the motor, thanks for your help!
