Motor is a 1989 Johnson 175. Power tilt/trim worked OK last season. Last week I tilt motor up to trailer boat and tilt piston (larger one) worked fine, but one of the trim pistons is still in the down position-only one of them is extended. Should I try a little silicon spray first before I start thinking about replacing the unit?

Re: Tilt piston stuck

When the PTT is at the fully extended position, the unit drags down in rpms as it can go no further.

It's unlikely that one of the PTT trim rams could jam against such a hydraulic power.

I suspect that the unit is possibly low on fluid. If so, have the unit in the fully tilted up position, then fill the reservoir to overflowing. Insert and tighted the reservoir screw plug and "O" Ring. The unit is self bleeding.

Test to see if that corrected the problem and let us know. You may need to repeat the filling process... check the level.
