I have a suzuki 115 HP and this weekend the tilt quit, this is the story. I was getting ready to go to the river and was running the engine warm it before hitting the ramp. When I turned the engine off and hit the tilt button to raise it for the trip, nothing. I grabbed the lower unit and pulled it up halfway, the button then worked and the motor came all the way up under power. I arrive at the ramp and the engine will not lower. All I get is click, click, click on the engine. I know the battery is good(1 week old). I have looked in the manual and still have no clue. Some one please guide me in the right direction. I hate to take it to the mech because I know that in addition to whatever is wrong, I will probably receive more work that is not exactly needed. Thanks guys.

Re: Tilt quit this weekend, need suggestions

I had a similar problem on one of my Merc 175s. Turned out the two wires going to the lift motor from the switch were terribly corroded – even 4 or 5 inches under the insulation from the end. I removed the lift motor and replaced the wires. After the lift motor was reinstalled, it worked great and has been ever since. Symptoms sound similar.

Hope this helps.

Take care, Michaelb
