Tilt sending units

Curious about the sending units. I have an 1989 225 evinrude. The tilt sending unit is bad, and of course that part is obsolete. Looking around many of the sending units look the same just different arms. Does anyone know if they are the same? Part numbers say otherwise, but honestly, part numbers change faster than i change motors.
Or, my other option is to find the correct pot and replace it, does anyone know the right resistances?
