I need help. I bought a used evinrude 115 (1984). Didint realize at the time but the tilt tube has no threaded end to attach the steering cable to...not sure if someone along the years cut it off or what but now I dont know what to do...can I fabricate something to attach to the splashwell?

You can buy splashwell mounts here at iboats, but why would you want to go backward to an obsolete system? Simply replace the tilt tube.

What I was thinking, but the OP probably doesn't know he can replace it.

Re: tilt/steering tube

since the "new" motor isnt on the boat yet is it hard to replace the tilt tube? I know this may be a dumb question but I am a bit new to this and I appreciate the experienced help that can be found here. I am picturing it being difficult to remove the old one from the bracket.

It should be easy to remove the tilt tube and replace it. You will need to hang the motor or support it w/o using the transom bracket.

I know this may be a bad idea but I gotta ask...I have an old motor I was going to use for parts if I ever need to...could that tube work? that motor is a 50 hp force 1988

If you are lucky, it will just tap out with a hammer. If it has been used in salt water, not so good.

As said, have the motor hanging from a hoist.
