My brother in law has a 90s model merc 135 hp and the tilt & trim will not hold in the up position it slowly leaks down he has rebuilt the unit and still has the same problem. My question is how do you bleed the air from the lines and could the air in the lines be the problem. Thanks in advance for any help

Re: tilt & trim 135 merc

Hey Reelsport: Yes the air is probably in the line, and it will not hold position if thats the case. On most power trim units you need to bleed the system from he high pressure side. Usually a 3/8 fitting at the top of the piston. Have some one hit the up button while you losen the fitting just enoungh to bleed the air and close it again. You may have to do this on both sides. There is also an adjustment on the side of my unit that allows me to increase line pressure to a small degree. <br />Good Luck Chief

Also make sure the manual release screw is tighly closed, or it will do the same thing.
