My 79 Evinrude 140 V-4 tilt/trim has been acting up. It didn't go up, only down for awhile. I replaced the solenoid and then it worked fine for a few days. Now it will go up, then the trim motor runs free and the engine freezes. The same thing has happened with it going down lately. I powerwashed the tilt/trim tube then heavily lubed it. It worked a little better, but the tilt motor would sound like it is slipping. Now the motor is in a running position, top trim, and won't move again. The tilt motor runs like it is unengaged both up and down.<br />Are these tilt/trim motors hydraulic or electric gear driven? If hydraulic, where are the fluid ports? Is there any point lubricating the tilt/trim pistons? Does the trim motor need to get taken apart to check and lube the gears?
