tilt-trim comes down slowly

have a 120force that a couple of fellows helped me get started with their advise.. Now i find out the tilt-trim comes down real slow from the 3/4 position to the bottom. How do i go about correcting this. The tilt-trim works fine going up and down. just won'y stay up... tks. for advice.....:confused: daveywonder

That's usually the pump.
We need to know what year or the model and any pics will help.
Get the manual and o the leakdown tests.

i had the same issue last year and just got done rebuilding my valve body on the bottom of the pump - it's not an easy job but it did fix most of my issues. Trim works perfect now but I have a VERY slow drift on tilt still. I did mine is b/c I ski constantly and the trim angle of the motor affects the ski wake alot.

Is it dropping only on tilt or on trim too ? trim is the setting you use in the water. If you are not too picky you can just put some 1/2" SS bolts into the 2nd holes to keep it from going below level. on the back side of the bolts you can use a SS coupler nut. My dad has run is boat this way for many years.

That faq link provided also gives you the leak down test procedure that you will need to do first to identify the source of the leak down. Although, I would say, 90 percent of the time it is the valve body's spool valves and worn out rings on the shuttle valves that is the main cause of the leak down.
