Tilt/Trim died

I have a Johnson 120 VRO circa '86. The tilt/trim has worked with intermittent failures up until today. Motor tilted down, slower and slower, then came to rest 1/4 down.Now when I push either button I hear (the relay?) click, but nothing happens at the pump. No sound from there at all. Plenty of battery power, as the motor cranks vigourously. Any ideas before I head off to the mechanics?

I would say one of the relays shorted out. It happened to mine. I pulled the relays and took them to the auto parts store and they matched them up and gave me 2 new ones. Popped them both in and it worked like new again. I thought it was funny that one relay could go bad and neither up nor down would work but thats what happened. Hope it helps.

Thanks Formula1974. Oddly enough, the tilt started working for me today. It cut after a while. I now think it's the brushes as a few light taps on the motor body gets it to go again. Looks like I'll have to try and get that out and have a look. I appreciate the suggestion. Cheers
