1974 erude 135
i have read on this site that when adding t/t fluid you should have motor in raised position, then top it off (if you are having problems with the engine raising all the way or staying up). if it is raised, all (or most) of the fluid is in the cylynders, correct?
so, if you top it off, and then lower the engine and push the fluid back into the resivoir, won't it be over-full...possibly blowing out a seal or hose?
especially, say, if you are only a little low?
i have no problems with mine, but i would like to know how to check the level.
since i have no problems, should i just check it at the fill plug with the motor in the down position?
thanks you guys are a great help.
almost like a giant, omniscient online shop manual...

Re: tilt trim fluid level check

Check the level in the reservoir with the engine all the way up. There is sufficent volume in the reservoir to take the fluid when the engine is lowered all the way. If you check it with the engine all the way down, you will likely lose a bunch of fluid....

The correct way is check the level, engine up, top off if needed. Cycle the engine up and down 3>4 times and recheck the level. Top off and repeat. Do this until the level stays at the bottom of the fill hole with the engine all the way up.
