I had a tach and tilt/trim gauge problem earlier. I was able to fix the tach, but the trim is still not working. Should the T/T gauge read anything when the key is at the ON position or only when motor is running? If anyone has any diagrams of the back of the gauge that would be helpful or where the sensor is on the motor.

Thanks

I also check all of the fuses and they seem fine as well as no loose wires.

Re: Tilt/Trim gauge

It would have been helpfull if you stated what engine you have. The gauge should register if the key is ON whether the engine is running or not.

The back of the PTT gauge should have terminals "S", "I", "G" and possible a "L".

A 12 volt source should be applied to the "I" (ignition) terminal but only when the key is in the ON or START position. A wire from the "A" (accessory) terminal of the ignition switch to the "I" terminal of the gauge.

A ground, black wire, leading from the "G" (ground) terminal of the gauge to a known ground. NOTE, DO NOT connect to the Black/Yellow wire of the ignition switch as that wire is not a ground and if connected to this black/yellow wire, that will cause damage to the powerpack.

There should be a light colored wire with perhaps a brown tracer leading from the engine/instrument wiring harness. That would be connected to the "S" (sensor) terminal of the gauge.

The "L" terminal, if it exists is for the light in the gauge and would simply be connected to the related light switch.

Sorry I forgot to mention that is a 1990, 150 Hp Evinrude on a 1990, 19 foot Champion Bass Boat.
