Tilt/Trim guage not reading

I put a new trim guage in but I'm not sure which wire is the sending wire. I have a Quicksilver control for Merc with a harness that comes out the front of the control box. There are only two wires left I believe, tan and brown/white. Do I need to pick up an ohm reader?

Re: Tilt/Trim guage not reading

There is a reply up a couple of posts on this for an evunrude. My tilt/trim on my Mercury hasn't worked since the power head was changed 12 years ago. I just go by the sound of the motor and try to keep the top of the engine level with the water, not the boat.

Wilson.... Mercurys are not my line of expertise, however try the following.

Hook up a ohm meter, one of its leads to either one of the wires you mentioned, the other lead to a ground. Watching the meter, raise and lower the engine.

If the ohm meter increases and decreases its reading as you do that, that wire would be the sender wire.
