Hello,

So I have been repairing my boat bit by bit since my *NEWBIE* Disaster first day!! which was not almost 2 months ago. I have to say that at times I enjoy working on the boat, but right now I have kinda had enough. Anyway, on to my post.

As I have read on similar threads before, after replacing my water pump, water pocket cover, exhaust tubes, flappers etc, I also found that my hydraulic hoses were fried. I took off the old hoses and noted the location of the hose colours, black was forward on both the pump and at the manifold, with the grey at the aft. When I came to installing the new ones, I noticed that there is now way I can get them in the same locations, by matching the colours. The fittings are just not natural! the Grey has the smaller elbow (90) and the black has the bigger 90 elbow. So I can only get them in with the grey forward and the black aft. Before I fill up the reservoir, and try to get it going, will this be ok? I have read posts, manuals etc and am stuck. I have read that the up circuit is 2200 psi and the down circuit 600 psi, and so I can see it has to be right.

So, in a nutshell, my old, melted hoses had the 90 degree elbows for the manifold on the opposite coloured hoses. So the small 90 was on the black, the large 90 on the grey. On my new hoses the small 90 is on my grey and large 90 on the black.

I have been looking and researching so much, that I am just confusing things. I dont know which one the up/down circuit is, which colour is which etc etc. I just want to get it fixed and get my kids out while it is nice!

Thanks for any help,

Andy.

Ayuh,.... That'll work, so long as ya swap the lines on the Other side of the manifold,....

Can't say I've ever taken notice of the color, but I would have thought that the connection type was more important than color. If you had for example 2 Blacks but both had the correct end fittings on, but needed to differentiate which was which you could simply wrap some electrical tape round one to ID it. I can't for the life of me think the color has any effect on the performance of the hoses.

Another little issue....

So the hoses are are in and I have started topping up the oil in the pump. I put some oil in, checking the dipstick then when I got close to full, I tried to raise/lower the outboard with the trim switch, to try and purge out the air. I pushed the trim switch down, heard the noises change etc, though not sure if actually moved. I was not concerned as I know I need more oil in. The problem was, the up switch made no noise at all and did not do anything. The trailer switch did make the noises though.

Is this a similar problem as to the following thread -
http://forums.iboats.com/mercruiser...wer-trim-not-going-up-port-engine-613198.html

It was working before changing the lines out. I had to quit for the night as the mosquitos were starting to chew me up! Before quitting I did briefly check for lose connections by hand, in case I knocked them.

I really appreciate your help.

Thanks and hope you guys had a happy 4th of July.

Andy.
