Motor: 1978 Mercury 900 inline 6. I put new brushes in the TT motor, then when remounting it, and reattaching the hydraulic hoses, I overtightened a hose fitting and stripped the threads in the base. I nearly cried. I've kicked myself enough now, so I need to know if I'm screwed here. Is this saveable? do those helicoil things work in alumiunum? Thanks.

It's a flare fitting so there are no heli-coils for it, try takeing the valve bodt off the bottom of the pump and try to screw a fitting in it to clean up the threads (I hoe) or you will have to find a valve body with luck a used one thy are very expensive--Bob

The valve body is NLA,so a used one is your best bet.Maybe even buy a whole used pump at a good price.
Maybe the bad threads can be tapped to pipe threads, and an adapter to flare screwed in.

DHP

You can usually find the whole motor/pump unit on ebay for about $40-$100.

Yeah I've been through the same situation. I bought one a lot cheaper, but that was a while back. I finally have the tilt and trim working great. Now I just need to get the assembly mounted on the mounting bracket I bought on ebay, and install it back in the boat.

By the way, I don't know if you know this but there are two different lenght motor shafts that fit into these pumps. I learned this the hard way.
