Tilt Trim just clicking need help

1986 evinrude v4 90hp. The tilt trim worked fine when i put it away for the winter now its not working. its clicking in the black fuse panel thats bolted to the block. i changed the fuse that was located in the red rubber grommet. i cleaned the terminals where the relays are located still no luck. should i get new relays and try that? anyone know where to start let me know but its a very distinctive loud click.

make sure you have power coming out of the relay going to the motor. if you do, make sure it is getting to the motor, if it is suspect motor. do just throw parts at it.

is changing the motor a pain? i suspect it would be, hopefully thats not the problem

Mine was doing the same thing, however, if you listened very closely, you could hear the trim motor making the slightest of noises. Of course the motor was bad.

Let us know what you find in terms of power to the trim motor if it exists.

I just recently disassembled a trim tilt on a 1986 120 hp johnson just for that same problem.This is a salt water motor.I to thought it was the motor but then i thought it can't be the motor if it doesn't click when the trim is operating .So i lubed everything and changed the fluid,nothing worked.So tried to take the pin out that holds the tilt cylinder to the engine,This pin was so froze,took 2lb hammer and chisel to remove.Cleaned everything up and lubed the plastic bushing.Works fine now. You might be able to drill tap and put a greese zert there if you can.

Fixed it. there is a plastic connector that was rusted. the connector was for the green and blue wires that go to the motor. i cut it off and recrimped the wires with new connectors and it works perfect. thanks
