1984 'Rude 140. I bought the engine several months ago for a project boat. EVERYTHING worked perfectly on the engine before I bought it, I ran the tilt/trim up and down several times while checking for leaks and there were no issues.

The engine has been sitting on my trailer until today, after installing it the tilt motor would run but the engine wouldn't move. I unscrewed the manual release valve and raised the engine by hand, checked the hydraulic fluid level and it was right up to the level of the fill plug. After screwing the manual release valve back in all of a sudden the tilt/trim started working, but every time I ran it there was a lot of fluid leaking from around the manual release valve.

I'm guessing I'm going to have to replace the manual release valve, but I see that OMC is darned proud of those things - $91 for that little valve is crazy. Is there any chance of fixing it without buying a new one?

Also, if I do need to replace it can I get away with just screwing in a new one (I have the factory manual), or should I disassemble the entire unit to make sure the valve didn't leave any debris behind?
