i just pulled my boat out of the water because my tilt/trim motor quit.

im at the lake so i have no manuals with me........... the kids just had to have the laptop so i lucked out to have all this info and help on the net.

when i turn the manual release shouldnt the eng go all the way down?

mine only releases to the trim rams.

i have an extra trim motor at home but im wondering if i have other problems since the release valve didnt drop the eng all the way down..

thanks in advance guys.

I'd try to get it up and locked, that way you can get home.

Manual release allows you to push it down and lift it up....all the way.

Re: tilt/trim manual release

well i put on my spare motor and the tilt/trim works fine....... although i never got the trim rams to compress using the manual release valve.

somehow the lil keeper pin that goes on the tilt rod pin came out and the pin slid out a half of an inch and crushed the top of the motor cover when i tilted it down at some point in time ..................... the motor was FULL of water.

so should i leave it alone since everything seems fine or should i be concerned about the trim rams not releasing with the manual release valve?

the fluid was also full of water so i changed it 2 times to purge the water.

yeah i was worried about the ride home since it wouldnt do anything............ up or down with the motor.

i just strapped it to the transom saver and limped home............. i did re-tighten the release valve after i got it on the transom saver but i dont know how much help it was.

Re: tilt/trim manual release

sorry can't make sense of your posts,

"motor is full of water, fluid is full of water"

but then you write,

" should I leave it alone since everything seems fine "

doesn't sound like anything is fine to me.

Re: tilt/trim manual release

sorry about the confusion.

i found the reason why it quit. the tilt cyl pin slid out just enough to crush the top of the trim/tilt motor. this allowed water into the motor and killed it.

the screws that hold down the motor were loose so im hoping thats where the water got in to make the fluid milky............... ive got my fingers crossed.

after i replaced the motor with my known good motor i drained and refilled the fluid 2 times, and worked the trim up and down in between, to get rid of all the milky fluid.

it set over night and hasnt leaked down any and still moves like its supposed to.........all the way in and alll the way up.

now im wondering if i may have a valve sticking since the trim rams would not compress after i released the pressure using the manual screw on the side.

it was a pain trying to get back to the dock with the eng at full trim. thats why im asking what i need to look for, in case i have these problems again i can lower the motor and at least get on plane........................ it was a hard sale to get my buddy to get on the front of the boat while i tried to get on plane.

Re: tilt/trim manual release

ahh yeh that makes sense now,

so with the new tilt motor, will it not tilt in (down)?

Re: tilt/trim manual release

everything works fine.

the trim has full function as well as the tilt.

what im worried about is if in the future i have more problems and have to use the manual release valve to lower the eng....................it lowered to the trim rams but the rams would not go down even with the manual valve open............... but they work fine with the motor.
