tilt trim MCM 3.0litre , S/N B554637 tilt trim does not go up in water.

I just bought 1987 Marlin, Mercruiser model 3.0 litre, 130hp, S/N B554637. when I got a boat home tilt trim work ok, I took it out for test drive and fish about 3 hrs, come back to dock can not get the the lower unit up. Press up button nothing works.

where do i start looking atit first or try, any advice will be appreciated, thank you cal s.

Ayuh,.... Remove the wiring ends, at the pump/ solenoids, 'n clean the corrosion off 'em...

if the pump runs going down --

then try the 'trailer button' to bring the drive up

could be faulty trim limit switch

please help, how do I lower the lower unit from last time at the dock I took it apart and pull them up by hands and tied it with a rope.

Now I want to put it together to test it on land. It will not go down to let me putting the nuts back on. any advice will be appreciated.

Not much info on what is happening, does it click and nothing happens?, does the trim pump run and the drive not move?
What exactly are you taking apart to lift the drive by hand?

This may help if you are having an electrical problem.

Sorry, I did not enough info, is my yunger brother's boat in Cali.

Here is the details. He took off the trim cylinder ends that are close to the transom, the pump is running, yesterday, they tried to put the cylinder back on, one is shrunk won't let them put it back on, the other one on left stays the same length when you're facing the back of boat.

is that sock on right side shot? why is it shrunk? or how do I get it stretch out ? so I can do more testing, Thank you

Socks ????? I assume that means trim cylinder? They are hooked together hydraulically. Push one in, the other goes out. Once the are attached, they act as one.
It's usually easier to connect the transom end of the cylinder first, then hook up the drive end. Saves wear and tear on the hoses.

if it is low on fluid of hydraulic. how do i breed the system and add fluid to it? any advice will be appreciate. atf fluid ok?

Put some oil in it and run it up and down a few times, they are self bleeding. Note, merc uses 10w30 oil, but if it's red, some put ATF in it. Don't mix.

I am not sure when you say self bleeding. Is there any bleeding screw like car's brake, can you tell me more, Thank you.

The air will work itself out of the system automatically, there's nothing to bleed. Just top off the trim pump reservoir and run it up-down a couple times.

Still need more info, I can not hook stbd side trim cylinder back on. might be shot, I plan to take them out and test them by hands,
what indications do I look for when I pull out and push in by hands? . ( cylinder rods ) Any advice will be appreciated.

Because, the trim cylinder on stbd side will not come out when I try to push in the other cylind, even tried to pull or ply on it, it is almost there but a little short. Any ideas?, Thank you.

Operate your trim button up or down. It should move the cylinder if it's not frozen internally,
