Tilt Trim Motor Gremlin - Motor does not stay in up position over night

For the past two days I have had to wake and go down to the dock to find the motor sitting in the beautiful brown water of a New Jersey river down and ready for take off.

I put the motor up every time I'm done. Am I loosing pressure somewhere in this tilt motor and tubing?

not sure what motor show up in my signature but its a pretty standard setup on a

It could be anything. I would start with a pump rebuild kit. I think Mercury still sells the $60 pump rebuild kits for your engine. If that doesn't work then your into a $200ish full rebuild scenario. Home depot sells 2x4 wood for cheap. You could always just cut a pair of blocks.

Drain as much of the oil as you can and put in some engine seal ..the stuff that expands the oil seals ....work it up and down every day ..may take a week to take effect ....lots of diffeent brands but make sure it says expands oil seals ...

A pump rebuild kit sounds easy....any ideas on that....the motor replacement was really simple

you know .... this stuff is a short term fix. it will cause a lot of seals to fail after a few months. In particular the popet seals on prestolite. I have repaired so many valve bodies where stuff like this has reduced the poppet seal to a gooey sludge.

you need to double check before ordering. I'm not sure how this pump kit slipped past mercury. It fairly specific item and you need to be double sure it is the right one for your engine.

that said - try part # 809880A1

mercury does not normally sell rebuild kits for oildyne EHA pumps. I think it might have slipped in under the radar because the bypass circuit is different on this pump.

it is a hydraulic circuit that opens up when there is too much pressure.

probably not but its the only chance you have to keep it under $250ish. If you would rather spend the extra money and let someone else fix it then check ebay for rebuild service.

it is probably either #6 or #9. It could be #10 but that is very unlikely. They usually break big or not at all. I thought there was a part number that included both #6 and #9. Having to buy both parts separately as listed stinks. You pay more for parts alone than I charge for whole rebuild. Try searching for an older part # that includes both 6 and 9 in a single kit. I think it sold for $100ish but was discontinued a few years back. If you can find the part number then you can probably find the part.
