Quick question, bought a new set of o-rings for for 85 125hp Force tilt trim. When I refill the motor with fluid, do I have the motor up on the cradle or hanging down like its in the water? Its been a while since I've done this and I have forgotten. Thanks!

Re: Tilt/trim; motor up or down

When you first start filling the reservoir and trying to cycle to tilt, you will run out of fluid 3 or 4 times so it really doesn't matter. HOWEVER: When you get near full with all air expelled from the cylinders, SOME systems do develop pressure in one position--I forget, it may be down--At any rate, it will say so on the motor.

So, top off the fluid in whatever position the motor says

Re: Tilt/trim; motor up or down

My trim motor has absolutely zero lettering/engraving/stamped areas/stickers. Nothing. It is simply white. I did however change all the o-rings in the "home plate" looking thingy. Then I put the motor down as if it were in the water, it made more sense to have all the cylinders closed (not extended). I leveled the boat off so the trim unit was as level as I could get it without digging my hitch wheel into the floor of my garage. Then I intermittently added fluid, raised and lowered, topped it off, raised and lowered again. Over and over about 12 times until it all worked smoothly and free from any air. I assume this is correct. Please advise if what I did was inappropriate.

You fill the resivoir while it's down.
Fill and cycle,fill and cycle.
Filling it while it's up. It can push fluid up into the electric motor.
