I have a 1990 150hp yamaha. The other day suddenly the tilt just quit working. I checked the fluid and released the bleeder screw. All I hear is a slight noise in the tilt motor area. the volt meter also goes down when I hit the switch. Is the tilt motor shot?

Re: Tilt Trim not working

Read my Yamaha post on "PTT Failure" . Sorry I don't know how to add it to your post. It explains how to troubleshoot it. The guys here helped me find my problem and explain how it works too. The clicking noise sounds like the up and down relay on the motor are working but you need to follow the procedures I was given in my post, very helpful. Also a oem manual is best to have to help yourself too. Good luck.

If the volt meter is dropping, it sounds like the motor is locked up and pulling to many amps. If you have a DC ammeter you can use it to check if it is pulling amps and how many. Could be magnets have come loose or something else like rust has jammed the motor or the pump itself has bound up.
