The tilt on my boat works off and on. I can always here the solenoid clicking when I hit the switch, but the mnotor doesn't always run. Sometimes it will go down fine, but then won't come back up. I will have to play with the switch a bunch of times or sometimes holding it down for a while it will eventually engage the motor. Does this sound like a problem in the motor itself or could corosion on the electrical connections cause something like this? Thanks.

Aaron

Assuming when it doesn't work, it doesn't in both directions, it may be the brushes in the motor. Is the motor all rusty??
Next time it won't run, have some one hold the button and you "TAP" the motor at the top. If it starts, the brushes are hanging, probably due to rust.
It could also be in one of the connections, check them all. Including the main ground.

It is off and on, but it has failed in both directions. Normally it requires either holding the switch in for a minute or moving it up and down until it works. I will try tapping on the motor next time I have a problem and I'll see if I can find the place in the manual about how to test the solenoids. Thanks.

Had same problem several years ago. Solenoid always clicked. Repalce solenoid or if cheapscape like me: I drilled four rivets out and cleaned internal contacts of solenoid. Reassembled using small stainless bolts where rivets were. No problems to date.
