tilt/ trim problem leaking after rebuild

1998 welcraft 16ft ,50hp johnson ,
rebuilt trim cylinder and everything ive read says its self bleeding out around top of cylinder ,the problem i am having is isee air in the fluid coming out but after air is all gone fluid is still coming out solid red !is this normal ? everything went together great no problems ! so what to do now !
using dexron 3 tranny fluid !

Is this unit leaking down from full tilt or is oil coming out somewhere ?? Once you fill it in the full tilt position, you should cycle it up and down 5 times and recheck oil.

yea filled it up in the up position ran it up and down and it still has fluid coming out of the top where shaft hooks to motor ,filled it up a few times after doing this for acouple of hours in two days it still leaking down

Normally there is an oring and a wiper in the cap of the trim cylinder. Did you replace those? Does the trim rod have a nick that can tear the seals?
