Hey Dogfoot40....First of all ALWAYS make sure your pivot points are lubed...If you have a manual that usually has some good info to..
cabinboy.

This will sound strang but it is easy and worth the time if you are going to keep the motor for a while.
If you drill two holes slightely larger than 5/16 in the port bracket you can reach through and unbolt the pump and motor together.
Now all you have to do is knock the top pin out of the center ram and swing the whole mess down.

Dogfoot.... On the later models, it's a little easier, however this is how it's done on the 1979 model.

Have the engine tilted to its extreme up position, then block it securely so that it can not fall or move sideways.

Remove the port transom bracket, slide it sideways, get it out of the way.

Follow the electrical cable from the PTT motor and disconnect it. Remove the top pin from the center tilt cylinder, then force the cylinder piston downwards. Remove the three PTT retaining bolts from the starboard transom bracket. You can now remove the PTT assy for whatever repairs are needed, including replacing the electric motor.
