I've got a 1979 150 hp Johnson. The tilt & trim had been working fine, but just quit. The motor is working, but will not raise or lower the motor. Where do I start looking for the problem.

Ya I could answer all questions including your post kmartassassin with mechanic shop LOL

Check for fluid leaks around your tilt and trim, hoses , cylinders etc, they are hydraulic closed systems so for starters if you lost all fluid the motor will work but t&t won't.

Mine was low one time and on a steep boat ramp it wouldn't work. I pulled it up on the level and it worked. I added less than a 1/2 quart and it worked even on an incline.

I had a similar problem except it just would not go up. Found out it was the relay. dont know if yours has one but if it does unplug it and plug it back in. If thanks that case then get some new relay switches.

The remote trim box on that year engine has a fuse inline. The trim unit is wired by itself direct to the battery, so if the unit is not doing anything, check the fuse. It looks like the same fuseholder that is on the main engine harness under the cowl. Probably the same fuse.
