Tilt/Trim Sending hookup

I am in the process of hooking up a new-to-me tilt trim unit on my 1985 90 hp Evinrude which did not previously have power tilt/trim. I think I am all set on the relays and wiring up the motor but what I am kind of stumped on is the sending unit. The sending unit has a 2 conductor cable that ends in a rubber connector. I am not exactly sure how to deal with it. Does it hook up to the trim gauge? The wiring diagram seems to send it to the tach amphenol connector on the Remote, is this right? I included a picture of the plug I am concerned with. Sending Plug 2.JPGSending Plug 1.JPGSending Plug 2.JPGSending Plug 1.JPG

Yes the plug with 2 black wires goes to the gauge. The blue and green are up and down. Please post some pics of how you wired it up as I am in the same boat, thanks-

Re: Tilt/Trim Sending hookup

This is the wiring diagram I am following. West Marine actually had the right OMC relays and I am planning on rigging up the electronics this weekend so I will post how it looks.

Disclaimer: This diagram is not my own work, I think I found it from another user here on iBoats. I can't remember who the user was or I would give credit. It was just the most straightforward diagram I had come across.

so are both of the conductors in that plug sending unit signal? My gauge has a connection for ground, signal, and power. So do I just use one of the leads as signal and don't use the other?

Re: Tilt/Trim Sending hookup

Thanks that is a great diagram I printed it out. The black plug comes off the sending unit which is a small plastic lever mounted in the stern bracket and pivots with the trim. All I know is the two black wires go to the 2 wires coming off the gauge, the 3rd wire on the gauge goes to power I think. I saw a diagram on here somewhere but don't have a gauge so didn't save it. Here there are smarter boat people who know the answer for sure.

See the free wiring diagrams on the second sticky. Towards the bottom are two different versions of the 2-wire PTT. Both include the wiring of the sending unit and gauge.
