Tilt Trim sensor & limit sender wires

I am replacing my tilt/trim sender on my 78 Glastron. My only question is where does the second wire from the trim position sensor (driver side of the boat) go to? The wires on mine were very brittle and one was broke, the other went to a terminal on the trim motor selenoid. I could not fine any location where the broken wire could have been attached except one wire that goes all the way to the gauge cluster. Is that were it should be attached to? My trim gauge shows max up and burys the needle in the up position when the ignition is turned on, but the needle will sit above 3/4 up when the ignition is off with the wire attached to the one that goes to the gauges.

The sensor wires do run to the cluster.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. I think I am the 30th person to attemp to correct the wiring, spagetti on steroids.....
