My '82 Grady has been sitting 3 years with the outdrive in the full up position. Got back to working on boat again with new lower impeller and after installation found the rams were frozen. Sprayed rams with white lithium grease, removed the lines and stood on top to break it loose. After line re-attachment and working it up and down I found that it goes up nicely and goes down at about half the speed. Anyone have a clue for me? Yes resivoir is full. I believe the pump is a Prestolite 440.

Would it do any good to remove lines again and raise and lower outdrive by hand several times? Does it mean the pump is weak?
Thanks

Ayuh,.... The power of the pump is 'bout 1/2 goin' down, compared to Up,....

The thrust of the prop pushes it down when in the water,.....

Btw,... It should Never be left Full Up,....

When ya reach the Top, 'n the electric motor Labors,....
Tap the down button a second or two, to relieve the overload poppet valve in the pump,....

Good info to know! I'll remember to do that in the future. It was left full up, as far as it would rise, for 3 years! Thanks Bondo
