tilt/trim solenoid box

I have a 1978 johnson 115 v4 engine with power t/t non-elec shift...when i bought the boat the harness from the remote control to the t/t was lying loose as was the harness from the t/t motor. niether was connected to anything?....what is a solenoid box?...do I need one to make the t/t work?..wher does it go?...can I wire the wires directly together to make the t/t work?...you all have been a great help to me since I joined this forum..THANKS..

The T&T relays are usually in a plastic junction box bolted to the rear of the powerhead [about 3" x 4"]. If I'm understanding your situation correctly, this box is gone and the wires are just laying there unconnected. Sounds like someone took it out, maybe to work on it. You have to have these relays to make the T&T work.
