hello,

I have a 98 mercury 200hp offshore. My motor will not go up or down and I can hear a clicking sound coming from the tilt/trim relays when I push the switch. I believe this or the tilt/trim solenoid to be the problem. I am guessing the tilt trim solenoid is somewhere in the tilt tilt/trim housing but the motor is down and I can not figure out how to get it back up. any advice much appreciated.

Re: Tilt/Trim Solenoid??

Hey There,
My motor is different than yours but I went through a similar problem. Mine was doing exactly as you described, Clicking with no movement, My trim motor went out, the soleniod was fine. I had to replace the motor and it's fine now. To lift the motor you have to release the pressure by the releif valve and lift it manually(need a buddy to help you) and lock it into place with the safety catch.
My solenoid was inside the cowl on the motor.

Re: Tilt/Trim Solenoid??

Your '98 motor parts diagram shows you have a set of relays, instead of solenoids. Relays go with two wire trim motors and switch polarity to make the motor run in both directions.

Three wire trim motors have the two solenoid setup. You might double check what you have and get a service manual to help with the fix.
