VP SX-M drive, VP 3.0 GSM motor.

I started having problems last year where the tilt/trim motor would quit working. I was getting a clicking sound when I would hit try to trim the motor. I removed the solenoids, cleaned the contacts with contact spray, and it worked beautifully the rest of the season. Last weekend, I had the same problem again. Thinking the contacts were corroded, I reapeated the above process, with no luck.

However, if I jiggled the solenoids, it would work. I'm assuming I have a bad connection/short/corrosion somewhere in the connectors.

It appears that I will need to remove the whole motor in order to be able to check it out. Has anyone else had this problem? Pointers on testing the problem?

You might be able to remove the complete pump assembly to get at the relays (Not solenoids) for troubleshooting. It may just be the terminals are corroded down in the relay sockets and won't hold tight on the relays. Happens when they are mounted in wet areas.
After you do get it fixed, you might consider using dielectric grease on the terminals to help keep corrosion down. Also cover the pump.

Don S,

Do you mean to cover the pump with dielectric grease or with a waterproof fabric cover? I just got done cleaning the blades and sockets and liberally coating both with dielectric grease. Works fine...for now. Anything that I can do to prevent more problems is a bonus in my book!
