You are going to have to add a lot more information before anyone can help you.
Is it some form of trim tabs or a motor lift or the tilt an trim for an engine.

If it is a engine then I would suggest going to the Fourn for that brand engine and give all the details of what you have and what the problem is.

The switch your talking about could be a double pole double throw with a center off position. I that case the +12 would likely go to the center post. Hook it up wrong and you could burn up what ever you are trying to wire.

Use only a momentary contact switch, this type will prevent someone from leaving the drive motor energized.

Most tilt/trim motors are grounded by the case and you are only switching +12v. The two wires coming from your motor will either take it up or down...and ditto on the momentary switch. You should be able to test everything with a battery connected properly.

yes it is a tilt and trim that goes to a mariner 90hp. i figure that up on the switch can take 90hp up and down on switch goes down and the middle position is off and shouldn't do anything. what is a momentary switch??

A momentary contact switch is one that return to the off position when you are not pressing on it.
For most tilt and trim switches they are spring loaded to the center off position.
Push the up side of the switch in to raise the motor and the down side to lower the motor, but as soon as you let go it goes to the center off position.
Most of these Switches only have 3 lugs. It sounded like your's had 6 lugs to connect wires to.

Re: tilt trim tring to wire switch

so the switch will work, now i need a little help with the wiring part. does hot( Power)go to center, or does ground go to center, and if hot does to center where does ground go? I know blue and green will go to ble up and green down. I just need to figure out the hot and ground part. and does the metal plate on switch need to be grounded to something metal. I wouldn't think so, sence no metal is on dash of boat, but you never know, til you ask!!

I do not know your motor so do not want to try and tell you how to wire without a schemetic. Yes the +12 volts normally goes to the center common post but why you have six post and how your motor is wired I do not know.
I would go over to the forum for your motor and make another Post.
Over there someone may have the wireing diagram and be able to help you.

Re: tilt trim tring to wire switch

The switch does not need grounded the motor is grounded and you are switching the hot leg just like a home circuit

more then likely you are going to need the +12v to the center post the up wire (usually blue) goes to the bottom post and the green goes to the top post.

most people get the blue and green reversed and the motor works in the opposite direction as anticipated.

You should only need to use three of the six posts on your switch

You also need to use the three terminals on the same side of the switch.
