Ok, I took my motor apart to check connections, and it comes in 3 pieces; bottom is still attached to the boat with the cone on it; the center piece has the brushes and the wire hook up, and the top is just a cap; while it is apart, should I spray it, grease it, lube it, something ? /anything ? I'm replacing the o-rings and using some rtv when I put it back together

Second, the motor housing is all rusted on one side; i scraped, brused and sanded it smouuth, but around the lip on the cap, it is a little too close for comfort. anything I can use to build it up a little ? some type of metal epoxy or something ? I though about some JB Weld. Please help before I pull all my gray hairs out !

Lube the bushings with 10w30 engine etc. Keep the armature commutator CLEAN. Carefull with the RTV. If it smell like vinegar, its corrosive and its fumes may attack the copper components. Use a urethane caulk or general marine caulk to reseal any rusted-out areas.... :)

can you recommend a good sealant ? Are the bushings the little round bearing at the top ? I didn't actually remove the cone ?? Thanks Schematic, you always come through. PS, it should go back together as easily as it came apart, right ? Any trick to resetting the little magnets ??

Hi troyo
I think your engine is a Nissan. I've never worked on one so I'm only guessing. The last caulk that I liked was a black urethane used for rain gutters. Its available at any hardware. Can't remember the brand. Be sure the surface is clean before caulking....
The bushing that needs lube resides in the cap. (there often is one at the opposite end as well)Its a little round sleeve that is brass in color. Give it a couple small drops of oil.
You referred to holding magnets in place. I'm thinking you mean brushes and springs. If your brush-holder resides in the motor barrel, I simply install the springs and brushes and hold them in with my 2 pointer fingers. Then, using your other fingers, lift the whole assembly and slide it over the armature which remained attached to the pump. You may also try using a socket of the same outside diameter to hold the brushes in place as you slide the housing over the armature. :)
