My tilt/trim motor is out. My motor is all the way down. I need to get my boat to another location for repair, but I cannot pull it down the road. How can I get the motor tilted up. Can I disconnect a hydraulic line or something. Any info would be appreciated. It's a 1989 Skeeter with a Yamaha 175, if it makes any difference. Thanks

Re: Tilt/Trim

There are usually release valves built into trim/tilt cylinders in case you hit something at speed on the water. This lets the engine tilt up. So, you should be able to force the lower unit up by hand without disconnecting anything. Won't be easy--won't be fun, but do-able. also, look for a manual release valve. Some units have them, some don't.

Worst case scenario: remove the motor and turn the armature with an electric drill or even by hand to slowly tilt up the engine.

Either way, you don't remove hydraulic lines and run the risk of stripping fittings or getting fluid all over the place.

Oh yeah! Before you do this, make sure it is indeed a defective motor: Check relays, switch, and fuses first.

Re: Tilt/Trim

I think my motor has a flat head screw on the side of the tilt set up that will let you adjust the tilt manually.
