I have a 1986 Monarch ski boat with a 90 Evinrude and a power tilt & trim...The Tilt cylinder is leaking fluid out the top where the o-ring is. It looks like the o-ring is dried out and brittle..I have the manual and it says to take a 1/2" breaker bar and loosen the cap but the picture doesn't show any threads on the cap. Does it have just a few threads? also when I get that off do I unscrew the rod and pull it out to replace the o-ring?

It will make a slight difference if it is the tilt or trim cylinder. The o-ring you can see is just a dust wiper. It is not the o-ring. You must remove the shaft to get to the o-ring.

Go to http://shop2.evinrude.com/Index.aspx?s1=amtr5duv3nui4n5a2q2sd07ej3&catalog_id=0&siteid=1 and select your motor and power hydraulics to see how the parts go together an come apart. You will have to get item 42 in your hand to replace o-ring. Item 42 takes a special wrench to remove.
