tilt tube play 1986 v6 EVINRUDE

hello all, replaced tilt tube and had a rough time getting it out ,one side came out ok but had to take port side stern bracket off with tilt tube stuck in it and had to have it presed out at a local marine shop. My question is when eng is tilted up past the brackets ,how much play should there be between the tilt tube and the swivel bracket,and should there be play between the tilt tube and stern bracket .or should it be tight. it moves when you shake the eng ,just a bit.<br /> ps this is a great web site, i have learned a lot just reading the posts, and over the winter i will be making repairs, so the spring will go well, <br /> THANKS<br /> <br /><br /> MR GIBBS

There really shouldnt be much any play on the tilt tube either on the swivel bracket or transom brackets. If there is, then the plastic bushings need replaced.<br /><br />

I replaced the plastic bushings is there a bushing that gets presed into the brackets the marina put it back togeather and hit me to the tune of 500 dollars. AND I GAVE HIM THE TILT TUBE AND THE BUSHING. I doint mind paying if is done right., I have the parts catalog and it dose not show any,however there is some play,could the brackets be rounded out.Iwill get a beter look this weekend, when the eng is down it seems solid.i knew this eng would need work when i bought the boat so i doint mind, that much the hull is mint like new but, the last owner did not do any thing but waterpump and plugs,over the last 10 years,.and it sat for 4 years.thats the way boats are. thanks <br /><br /> mr gibbs

Mr Gibbs, is it safe to assume that Parts #5,#50 and #46 were replaced in the pic below? If so, that should be it.<br /><br />
