Howdy,
My '79 J 140 won't tilt up after being tilted all the way down. If I stop just short of the bottom of the "down" tilt it will go up. If I bottom out in the "down" position I can loosen the release valve screw & tighten it right back & then it will tilt up.

It was a little low on fluid and I've re-filled it. I've cycled it up/down a few times and then topped the fluid off. I've done this probably 3 times.

Any ideas?

Thank you, very much!
HH

Re: Tilt Won't Go Up After Full Down Position

It's sounds like your "fully down position" is a bit past center (kinda like a over-center De-Sta-Co clamp for reference). If you buildup the hardstop (add material to the present stop) so your motor doesn't drop as low when fully down, your cylinder won't bind and clamp the motor in the new "fully down position". You can use variuos thickness "shims" to determine where the motor easily returns. Either that or your hydraulic system has some trapped air that you need to vent. Sometimes just cycling a dozen times or so with the filler cracked open and adding oil to top off at each fully raised cycle can alleviate that. Try to get the motor plumb vertical when attempting this.
Good luck

Re: Tilt Won't Go Up After Full Down Position

Thanks, angus63!
I've cycled this thing countless times, countless ways and it's full of fluid. It acts like it's got a bubble but I can't seem to get it worked out.

I've also discovered that after it bottoms out, I can let it set for about 20-30 seconds & it will tilt up just fine, then.

I'm going to look in my manual to find out more about adjusting the "down" stop. There's very, very little difference between where it bottoms out & where I can stop it & it will tilt up without problems.

Thanks for your help!
HH
