Our boat is a 1999 18 ft Triton 180 Premier.
Our motor is an XR2 Black Max 150 HP.
The Serial # is B176785

We want to time and check the ignition coils to see if they are bad or good. How can we do that ? Also About the carburators. How do we know what the jets are supposed to be (what size). Well let's just ask how to overhaul the carburators and what to look for. It seems that the carburator kits do not come with much hardware, maybe they don't need much we have never had them off.

Anything else we could do to tune the motor????

thanks,

NATE

Over thinking. You can't fix things that ain't broke.
But i would change the impellar, and check the lower end lube, for starts.

Re: time coils and tune up carburators

1) You don't time the coils -- you time the ignition.
2) Carb rebuild kits contain gaskets, a new needle and seat and little else because little else is needed. It is the cleaning part that requires the rebuild in the first place.
3) If you plan to do any work on your engine yourself you are advised to obtain a service manual specific to your engine. In some cases a manual can be downloaded.
4) When you do a carb rebuild you typically disturb the synchronization between throttle and timing linkage so that adjustment process must be followed to the letter (commonly called link & sync). You don't start that process in the middle.
