Time for new manifolds and risers.. Please help

I have a 2007 VP 5.7 GIF. Motor has 390 hours and mostly salt water use. The motor has a heat exchanger but the manifolds and risers are not part of that loop. The motor is flushed with fresh water after every time it is used. I have not flushed with salt away.

This spring after my second run I noticed a small rust line from one of the corners where the riser and manifold come together. No rust marks in the bilge. Other side is clear from what I can see. I took my lazer temp gauge and looking at temps of the manifolds and risers I am finding temp variances of 15-30 degrees on the risers and 20-40 degree variances on the manifolds. Also, when flushing the motor I am finding one side has 1/3 the water flow through the exhaust port then the other. The side with the low water flow corisponds with the side with the rust stain.

I took off the hose that feeds cooling water to the manifolds and gave them a hard flush to clear and mess that may of been sucked into the raw water intake. With the hose disconnected, I stated the motor running on the muffs and water flow is equal on both sides.

I am wanting to change both risers and manifolds rather then taking off the riser, scraping inside, then reinstalling with new gasket. Why do all that work when I am half way into the replacement process?

I have never done this job before. I have bought a can of CRC freeze blaster and have been spraying all bolts every evening for 4 days. Any advice, tips, tricks, cautions, or advise would be great. I am 50/50 on if I want to attempt or give it to my marine mechanic.

Ayuh,.... Dependin' on how much boat is in yer way,...

It's a pretty Easy swap, 'cept for the weight of 'em...

I use a couple of Loonnngggg bolts, with the heads cut off for alignment pins, to hold 'em in place, to start the bolts...

It is perfectly normal to have the temperature variance you have and the rust streak isn't telling you anything either. You may need to replace them but the only way to tell is to remove the riser and look at them. Post pictures of them after you clean the gasket material off. Make sure you buy Volvo OEM gaskets if you plan on reinstalling them.

5 years is about right for the life of the riser/manifold so I would probably just change them anyway. I also prefer OEM manifolds and risers over the aftermarket stuff.

Great idea with the long bolts. I will be using that one for sure. I will be ordering OE for everything including gaskets. Is there a better penatrate oil then what I am using? My big concern is breaking a bolt.

There's a whole thread on penetrating oil right now. Kroil is what I use. If you are replacing the manifold anyway, breaking a bolt isn't too bad of a problem other than replacing the bolt
