My friends, associates, fellow members... Lately, that is for a number of months now, I find that I have entered posts/replies, that when entered seemed perfectly logical and correct whereas nothing could possibly be in error. However, in hindsight... sometimes at a later time or date a dawning upon myself or a reminder by a fellow member, would bring to light that what I had to say about a problem... was somewhat lacking to say the least.

I have noticed this happening taking place more often in recent months. I've lost track of how long I've been with this site and a few others... some not a great amount of time, but one or two from day one of their origin... or close to it, at any rate... a long time.

However, so it seems, something that seems to overtake all of us as some point has placed their hand on my shoulder in a manner of speaking, advising me that it's time to sit back, take a seat... break time! Whether it's a age thing, effects of medication, some sort of surgical complications, I don't know... BUT... today I entered a reply to a very easy to answer problem whereas my reply was in error, embarrassing, illogical, and downright stupid for someone with my years of experience to put into print.

Fortunately a couple of my respected fellow members tactfully and politely called this to my attention whereas I had time to omit/delete my reply. It occurs to me obviously, it's time to park the Harley, to get off and change it for something else. It's been quite a long ride and I feel fortunate to have lasted this long.... C'ya!

Hey Joe
If this is a farewell i would like to thank you for all that you have done on here. I know for sure if you hadnt written the Joe Reeves method on a lot things i would still be struggling to do anything with my motor.
So Sir Thank you very much for all that you have done.
Take care
Andy

We all have brain farts, and sometime don't see the forest for the trees, I've done this many times. Glad to hear that those responding were polite, to many times a few will come in and pound sarcastically and chastise. I have learned to not post as much as I use to, its just better this way for me.

Would like you to stick around, always need folks such as your self, but do understand your comments.

Take care

Aw, c'mon Joe. Now I feel terrible because I pointed out your error. I knew it was an honest mistake and tried to say it was just a slip-up.

This morning, I woke up and couldn't remember a dying friend's name. We all have brain farts.

Don't go.

Joe - You are being being too hard on yourself! No harm and no foul trying to help.

All of us have an oops moment now and again. We don't keep score, but if we did, you would be right at the top.

Besides, who is going to answer all the "Question for Joe Reeves" threads?

Do what you feel is best for you Joe and no one else. However , bear in mind that there are more people than you might imagine that have benefitted from your drama free wisdom and concise easy to understand advice over the years. You're still the man in my book. If we don't hear from you again , I hope you'll fare well.

In my years as a member (mostly lurking, reading and learning) I have always looked up to you and respected your wisdom. Getting up in years myself I understand but would none the less miss seeing your comments.

With all the variations/updates/differences over the years in these outboards, combined with ever shrinking sources of information on them, your expirence/knowledge regarding them added greatly to these forums. If you are determined to leave us, you will be missed.

Mr. Joe Reeves, 12477 posts, not a small amount of info you've contributed. I have no idea what your age is (I'm 70 but only a "grass- hopper" at outboards. I've been working my way through the entire Johnson/Evinrude forum backwards gleaning as much as I can about issues in general and motors around my Larks 1962 year in particular. Your replies are always well put and respected. I felt honored you replied to my last query/discussion. Am looking forward to more. - Pete

Joe, I was saddened to see this post. I always look for your replies to problems, you have a vast knowledge and you are highly respected here. I really hope this is not 'time to sign off', but if it is then thank you for all your valuable input and advice. Best Wishes, Nick.

Hey Joe,
I consider myself an expert on older J/E outboards. That said, I probably possess 28% of your OMC knowledge... and 3/4’s of that I got from you while scratching my head searching iboats archives..
THANK YOU!!

The value of this forum depends on its veteran members like Joe. I've been lurking around iBoats since about 2008 when I got my very first boat and motor. I've learned so much from you, Joe. I hope you decide to stick around.

I joined this adventure about 20+ years ago when a friend at work handed over his 80 year old dad's failing QD .Thanks to this site
and others
, their keepers of knowledge willing to share , I jumped in and thanks to all you folks , years ahead of me I got that old QD running perfectly again. I suddenly became a "local "subject matter expert" thanks to folks like you mr.Reeves.

Since then, several crows have landed on my plate with a lot less than 12476 posts (I did not count your last post) . Part of any learning process I guess. I ate my crows  while trying to get myself a smaller plate.

Think of the impact of loosing access to your knowledge . No need to burn down the library because a few books are missing !

Seems to me there's always a niche for someone here at the forum, you just have to look.

I'd like to know how many people you've set straight over the years after they made a less than correct post.

I joined about two years before the join date that shows now. When they redid the site I lost over 2000 posts and most of them were replied to by Joe. He has sold me things out of his private stock that were no longer available at a heckuva price. I have had the honor of talking to him on the phone. He is one of the most genteel people I have ever known and always willing to help. With him, I find myself saying things in a reply that in hindsight were not the best and am also blaming it on age. I also have seen the culture change here in the last 20 years. It was getting out of hand with smart alecks and trolls then the mods finally got a handle on it and it is now back to folks posting the way this forum was meant be. Joe never wavered from treating people right.
He is the main reason that I have stayed and tried to help when I could. There is nothing wrong with humor in a reply but some answers that people think are humorous come across as snide remarks in print. I AM NOT singling anyone out as I still get help here and I don't believe one or two posts is the reason that he is leaving. I leave for periods of time to reset and brace to check in again. I am hoping that this is what gentleman Joe is doing.
If not, then Joe I want to thank you once again for being here all these years we have needed you. I have posted in your behalf before and meant every word of it. There were a few that went before you that I admired too but you are at the top.
Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.
